From Alice Walker, it is a worthwhile risk. But some of the essays felt like unnecessary filler. I particularly enjoyed the ones about Winnie Mandela near the beginning of the book, and Fidel Castro near the end. I read this book on a road trip and several times, people wanted to know what I was reading because I had to just stop and stare. All people and living things are the body and soul of God. Alice Walker, one of the United States’ preeminent writers, is an award-winning author of novels, stories, essays, and poetry. This pleasing collection of short essays amounts to a very personal stroll through her psyche. Some essays took my breath away. I love everything that Alice Walker writes but gave it a four because its "just" a collection of speeches.

However, I'm sure there's better collections of her work out there. I like Alice Walker a lot, she helps me get out of my own perspective. If you haven't heard of record-smashing singer and songwriter Mariah Carey, is there any hope for you? Her tone, at times in this book, is a little bit too new-agey and ridiculous. Until this very day, I have yet to read The Color Purple because Oprah has always scared me.
